Following her recent triumph as Best Actress at the Oscars for her role in “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” Michelle Yeoh is set to reprise her role in the Star Trek universe.
Yeoh will be starring in a “Star Trek: Discovery” spinoff movie event for Paramount+ called “Section 31.” The actress initially joined the “Discovery” cast in 2017, brilliantly portraying two characters: the kind-hearted Capt.
Philippa Georgiou and her sinister Mirror Universe counterpart, Empress Georgiou of the Terran Empire.
“Star Trek: Section 31” will delve into the story of Emperor Philippa Georgiou as she becomes involved with a covert faction within Starfleet Intelligence known as Section 31.
This secretive division is devoted to preserving the United Federation of Planets, often adopting a morally complex, “ends justify the means” approach to achieve its objectives.
The movie, which is produced by CBS Studios, is slated to begin production later this year.
Michelle Yeoh has expressed her excitement about returning to the Star Trek universe in a statement, sharing her joy about reuniting with her Star Trek family and revisiting the role she has cherished for years.
Yeoh also mentioned the significance of Section 31 in her journey as Philippa Georgiou, noting that it has been close to her heart since the beginning of this new era of Star Trek.
The actress encouraged fans to “live long and prosper (unless Emperor Georgiou decrees otherwise).”

Executive producer Alex Kurtzman recalled Yeoh’s early interest in a spin-off centered around her character, dating back to 2017, before the first season of “Star Trek: Discovery” had even aired.
He mentioned that Yeoh broke new ground as one of the first two women on screen in the pilot episode, which paved the way for this new age of Trek.
The release of “Star Trek: Section 31” comes on the heels of Yeoh’s groundbreaking Oscar win, and the team behind the franchise is excited to have her back.
David Stapf, president of CBS Studios, also expressed his enthusiasm for joining forces with Yeoh once again as they continue to explore the Star Trek universe, celebrate its legacy, and chart a course for the future of the franchise.
Stapf recognized the actress’s powerful performance as both Captain and Emperor Georgiou as a pivotal moment for the return of the franchise, and noted that her portrayal resonated with fans around the world.
In addition to her recent success at the Oscars, Michelle Yeoh is set to be honored with the 2023 Women In Motion Award at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival.
The award, presented during the Women In Motion dinner, celebrates women’s contributions to cinema and is a part of the Women in Motion program, which was launched in 2015 to highlight the creativity and achievements of women in culture and the arts.
Yeoh, who was born in Malaysia, has earned praise for her roles as strong, complex, and fearless women on screen.
Her work in the film industry has helped challenge gender and age-related stereotypes. Her recent accolades include not only the Academy Award but also a Golden Globe and a SAG award.
In her heartfelt acceptance speech at the Oscars, Yeoh addressed issues like diversity, racism, and ageism, inspiring a standing ovation and emphasizing the power of believing in oneself and never giving up on one’s dreams.
